Migrantas

Migrantas

Working with public urban spaces as a platform, migrantas uses pictograms to provide visibility to the thoughts and feelings of people who have left their own country and now live in a new one. Mobility, migration and transculturality are not the exception in our world, but are instead becoming the rule. Nevertheless, migrants and their experiences remain often invisible to the majority of our society. Migrantas works with issues of migration, identity and intercultural dialogue. Their work incorporates tools from the visual arts, graphic design and social sciences. The founders of the collective, who have immigrated to Germany, develop their projects with other migrants in workshops. The resulting drawings – the voices of migrants –  are then condensed into pictograms and distributed in public spaces.

Migrantas has been working for over ten years with migrants, especially women, from different countries and social-cultural backgrounds. Their pictograms have been presented in several formats in the public space (posters, banners, postcards, flyers, tote bags, stickers, publications and TV animations) in Germany and in other countries (Spain, Norway, Austria, Switzerland, Portugal, USA, Mexico, Canada, Morocco, Argentina).

Communication and dissemination is a fundamental pillar of their work, the main goal of migrantas is to reach with their projects as many people as possible through
simple, universally understandable pictograms and create visibility of social matters in the urban space.
Through the appropriation of art + design, understood as a technology of communication Migrantas has been carrying on a work engaging and empowering women from many different places and backgrounds in order to help them, through the use networking tools, to find a voice to share and communicate their concerns within the community.

Moreover, Migrantas has experience with PR and public relations.  They take part in conferences, panel discussions and master classes. Their work has been presented in exhibitions, publications and newspapers.

Migrantas will create the Corporate Identity of the project (logo, flyer layout and PPT design) and support WP3 with the development of a communication strategy. They will take care of the elaboration of dissemination material, translating the insights of the WP8 activities and/or other WPs into pictograms. Moreover, parallel to the official website and social media channels, they post on their social media channels photos and news related to project events.
